THE BRYANDALE GOVERNING BODY
In terms of Section 16(1) of the South African Schools Act (the Act), the governance of a public school is vested in the Governing Body, which has a fiduciary duty to act in the best interest of the school. The Governing Body may perform only such functions and obligations and exercise only such rights as prescribed by the Act.
In terms of section 16(3) of the Act, the Principal must undertake the professional management of a school, with the support of the School Management Team.
The Governing Body may determine policy with regard to the following:
(a) Admission – Section 5(5);
(b) Language – Section 6(2);
(c) Religious observances – Section 7.
(d) Code of conduct – Section 8
In addition to the general functions in Section 20, Bryandale Primary has applied for and received allocated functions as described in Section 21.
Bryandale Primary has the reputation of being an institution that pursues its innovative vision with determination and therefore provides exceptional education in a family environment. Strong relationships are formed and once a Bryandalian, always a Bryandalian.
This solid foundation is attributable to the mutual respect, support and dedicated efforts of many people who were committed to ensuring that Bryandale Primary remains at the forefront of education excellence. We are fortunate to have had SGBs that have formulated solid policies and have had a significant impact on school improvement, driven by productive working relationships with the SMT, the Finance Committee, other school teams and the community.
Over the years, the Governing Body has provided clear strategic direction as demonstrated by, amongst other worthwhile initiatives, the very successful Bryandale Pre-Primary School, the Bryanston Knowledge Base, Learning Centre and our world class Media Centre.
The diverse skills and knowledge of all the members stimulate innovative ideas and support detailed planning, open discussion and robust debate. A philosophy of transparency and integrity has been the cornerstone of good judgement and astute decision making which has ensured that Bryandale remains the exceptional school that it is.
